Winter

I bought gumboots. Though mine are black and shiny, not like these glorious wellies from Topshop.

Why? Because New Zealand weather in winter is crap. There is a billboard on my way to work which shows me taunts me with the current temperature in Fiji.

During the last couple of years global warming was good to us. Beautiful winters with clear skies. And now, classic NZ weather is back again. And it rains. A lot.

As New Zealanders, we all fool ourselves that we are a "sub-tropical" country (technically we are), so we don't wear rain coats or rain boots and our older houses aren't insulated. I currently sleep with three duvets on my bed.

But no! Finally I rage against this. I now wear gumboots to work when it is raining (they are pretty cute though). I am also determined to find a plastic rain coat that I like.

Then I will be a social outcast. But a dry one.

(Please, rich benefactor, let me live in L.A or something... so my hair will never be frizzy and my clothes will never be made of plastic.)

I love that you bought gumboots! Me too! I got some ware whare ones when I was in town for the scan - they are purple. They are all I've worn since then. I see people walking round the island, dodging puddles and mud (of which there is lots) and running away from the surf on the beach and I am like, "fools, FOOLS!" as I walk through all those obstacles. Isn't there a ton of enjoyment to be had from walking through a puddle and retaining nice warm tootsies? I LOVE MY GUMMIES! xx
